The activities within Elephant Learning are extremely effective, but the hidden gem of Elephant Learning is the reporting. I created Elephant Learning for my own child, and when I heard about the many studies that say math scores affect reading scores and overall scores, I became committed to ensuring that my child learns mathematics… despite me! What does that mean? Patience was not one of my virtues at the time, and the nice thing about electronic devices is they have an infinite amount of it. The key to teaching mathematics, as you now know, is working with children at their level. When you do that, it is fun for both you and your child. So to solve the problem of teaching my child, I created our reporting system.
Our algorithms quickly detect their level, and our reporting lets you know exactly what they are working on at any given point in time. On the dashboard, the Elephant Age is the one number metric that helps you understand how your child is doing and how they are progressing. The Elephant Age Graph shows changes in Elephant Age, which happen when your children pass milestones. As they pass milestones, we recalculate their Elephant Age based on the most advanced milestones they have passed so far.
Underneath the Elephant Age graph is the Active Curriculum section. These are the subjects that your children are actively working on; percent completion metrics are also displayed. If you click on any of these subjects, it opens more information with playtime statistics for that subject, as well as a description of what we are trying to teach in that subject. Underneath this information are the milestones that are within that subject, and the percent completion of each milestone, so that you can tell when the Elephant Age is about to change. If you click on a milestone, we provide detailed information about that milestone. We also display the activities that your child is currently working on and which activities your child may be struggling with, so that you can be aware of what they need to work on.
If you click on the activity, it will let you play in parent mode, which does not affect the student’s score. This way, you get a good idea of the concept that we are teaching at that moment.
Some of the most valuable items provided in the reports are activities that you can do with your child outside of our system that are exactly at their level. For example, if your child is learning to count, we may recommend playing a game in which they have to identify the number on the dice, and move their token that number of spaces on the board. We’ll also provide tips to help make everyday activities more educational.
The Playtime Analysis tab helps you understand how your child’s playtime compares to our recommended minimum play requirements. The dark line indicates 30 minutes per week, and the average fill allows you to see how your child measures against that. We also provide weekly playtime statistics, so you can see how your child is doing from week to week.
The History tab is a very useful piece of our reporting system, as you can dive in deep to see exactly what your child has been working on. Furthermore, if they are struggling with any subjects, we use this report internally to determine where the gap in understanding may be. You may always contact us if there are any issues that we may help with. Our only goal is to empower children with mathematics, and we do not mind getting our hands dirty.
